Is There A God? See What The World Thinks

The question of god is open to debate. Well not really. Only if you don't stop to think about it then you might argue in favor.

I have a poll on this blog asking the question. But aside from the stray waifs that accidentally end up on these pages, what does the rest of the world have to say on the issue?

Well you can find out here - this is a worldwide poll that asks the simple question "Do You Believe In God?"  No namby pamby in the middle answers here, it's a simple yes or no.  Cast your vote here >

Rep Monique Davis Must Resign Immediately

Let’s imagine for one moment that I am a state representative for Illinois. Furthermore let’s imagine that during a public hearing I say this:

“I don’t know what you have against Christianity, but some of us don’t have much against it. We look forward to God and his blessings. And it’s really a tragedy -- it’s tragic -- when a person who is engaged in anything related to Christianity, they want to fight. They want to fight Christian prayer in school.”

And let’s imagine that the person to whom I address these words is Jewish.

So my question is this, how long could I hold on to my public office position before I was forced to resign for my clear and obvious bigotry? I suspect that the answer is “not very long at all”.

But in this case Rep. Monique Davis gets to keep her position because luckily enough the person to whom she was so insulting to was a godless Atheist bastard and therefore deserving of such treatment. So Davis gets to stay because bigotry is okay if you direct it towards someone who has actually taken time to rationalize and think about existence, not followed like a sheep and abandoned all rational thought and accepted god as a matter of faith.

I know who should be treated with more respect and I suspect that you do to.

I am calling for the immediate resignation of Rep. Davis. This behavior is intolerable.

Davis Apologizes (Kind Of...)

Am I being pedantic, but shouldn't an apology include the word "sorry" somewhere in the text? I am trying to track down the complete text, but so far all I have is the abridged version...

...But, after being on the receiving end of a week’s worth of public criticism, Davis called Sherman yesterday to apologize.

Sherman says Davis told him she "took out her frustrations and emotions on me and that she shouldn’t have done that." Sherman says Davis' explanation was "reasonable" and that he forgives her.

According to Sherman and State Rep. Jack Franks….Davis claims her outburst was triggered by learning shortly beforehand…that there’d been another Chicago Public School student killed.

State Rep. Jack Franks was chairing the hearing that day and says Davis’ outburst was uncharacteristic, adding "she was having a bad day."

I'm sorry but that's just not an apology, that's an excuse.

Council for Secular Humanism Deplores Intemperate Comments from Rep. Monique Davis; calls for Davis to resign

(Amherst, New York) --Rep. Monique Davis, a Chicago Democrat and member of the Illinois legislature, stepped egregiously over the line when she verbally attacked atheist activist Rob Sherman for his religious unbelief during his testimony April 2nd to the House State Government Administration Committee, says the Council for Secular Humanism.

Atheist Quotes

This will be a regular feature. Every now and again I'll post a notable quote from an Atheist to inspire and enlighten. This quote is Chapman Cohen's (1868 - 1954) President of the National Secular Society, Britain's largest Atheist organization, 1915 - 1949. He was the editor of Free-Thinker Magazine.

"Gods are fragile things; they may be killed by a whiff of science or a dose of common sense"

The Worst Person In The World

Some people just do not get the concept of separation of church and state. Come on people it's not that tricky...

All The Answers

I woke up in a contemplative mood this morning and began to ponder life, the universe and everything. I was unsettled and wanted to seek answers to the ultimate mysteries. Not knowing the answers troubled me and I sought to gain insight into many of the deepest problems facing Homo Sapiens.

I thought long and hard and battled with my own intellect and sense of reason to answer why we are here, how the universe began, what spawned the first organic materials. I delved into science books to read the massive volumes of evidence and observations of the natural world.

It was all too much for me. The questions were too deep, too troubling, too profound. Then I remembered someone that I knew would have the answers. Someone who could take away this troublesome, nagging feeling of uncertainty and doubt about life, the universe and everything.

So I telephoned the local pastor and he kindly explained that "goddidit".

There we go, problem solved. No need to worry. Curiosity satisfied.

I inquired, “but who created God pastor?”

“Don’t question that my son,” He replied, "Else you might find yourself burning in Hell for eternity.”

Well that sure shut me up. My curiosity was quelled by the threat of fire.

Thank God that goddidit. Now I don’t have the think about it and I can get on with my day.

God Was Lovely & Nice To Me Today

God has been very good to me today, as indeed he is everyday.  He made sure that my alarm clock did not malfunction in the night and so I woke up in plenty of time to get a shower and eat breakfast before I had to head for work.  God made sure that my journey to work was free from incident and he made sure that all the crazy drivers were elsewhere (crashing into Godless atheists I hope) as I made my trip to the office.  When I arrived at work I noticed that God in His infinite wisdom had seen it fit not to allow the building to be consumed in flames during the night.  I dropped to my knees and thanked Him profusely for this blessing.

With the help of God my morning passed without incident.  God's hand was actively keeping international terrorists at bay as we did not encounter a single incident of terror before lunch.  For that I once again prayed and gave thanks.

God made me a lovely sandwich which I devoured for my lunch.  He made sure that I ate without biting my tongue or choking on the masticated food.

After lunch God again prevented acts of terror, kidnappings, burglary and rape, and I was most grateful.  He saw it fit to make sure that my workload was light (I think He must have done some of my work for me Himself - thank you Lord). I did however stub my toe on my desk leg - the work of Satan.

After work I arrived home safely.  Ate my dinner provided for me by God (He had been to the grocery store for me while I was at work, which was nice. And He always knows what I fancy for dinner too!).

I said my evening prayers and jumped into bed grateful that I was in the loving hands of my Lord and that I would be looked after while I slept.

You know, it is so nice to live my life without having to take any responsibility about anything whatsoever and to know that everything good that happens is the work of the Lord.
