Today Is The National Day Of Lunacy

Lettuce pray...

Today (May 1) is the National Day of Prayer where we are expected to hit the deck and pray to jebus about shit and stuff.  I am as mad as a box of frogs!  What a bullshit batshit crazy stupid fucking waste of time.

This should be conducted as a controlled experiment.  We should choose 100 people with terminal cancer and pray that half die and half survive.  Let's see once and for all what a total waste of human effort this praying crap really is.

Edward Lorenz, Father of Chaos Theory Dies

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Edward Lorenz, the father of chaos theory, who showed how small actions could lead to major changes in what became known as the "butterfly effect," died of cancer on Wednesday at the age of 90, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology said.

Lorenz, a meteorologist, figured out in the 1960s that small differences in a dynamic system such as the atmosphere could set off enormous changes. In 1972 he presented a study entitled "Predictability: Does the Flap of a Butterfly's Wings in Brazil Set Off a Tornado in Texas.

Mom Stabbed Girl Because of Demon

This is as heartbreaking a story as you could ever come across.  Clearly the mother of this poor child was suffering from mental illness.  Yet another example of the devastating effects of a delusional belief in a deity.

Davis Apologizes (Kind Of...)

Am I being pedantic, but shouldn't an apology include the word "sorry" somewhere in the text? I am trying to track down the complete text, but so far all I have is the abridged version...

...But, after being on the receiving end of a week’s worth of public criticism, Davis called Sherman yesterday to apologize.

Sherman says Davis told him she "took out her frustrations and emotions on me and that she shouldn’t have done that." Sherman says Davis' explanation was "reasonable" and that he forgives her.

According to Sherman and State Rep. Jack Franks….Davis claims her outburst was triggered by learning shortly beforehand…that there’d been another Chicago Public School student killed.

State Rep. Jack Franks was chairing the hearing that day and says Davis’ outburst was uncharacteristic, adding "she was having a bad day."

I'm sorry but that's just not an apology, that's an excuse.

In Search of the "God" Particle

From The Independent (UK) Newspaper - Reporting by Steve Connor

A rather unfortunate name, but good science none the less.

Science is all about big ideas. But few come bigger than the 'Higgs bosOn' – a theory that may unlock the universe's deepest secrets.
